"Time is muscle" and with every passing minute, the damage to the heart muscle increases. Rapid restoration of blood flow to the heart muscle preferably in the first hour called the golden hour is important. The best way to do this is primary angioplasty.  When someone has symptoms of a heart attack, one can panic and be confused as to what steps to take first. Reaching the hospital, calling for help, chewing an aspirin and being prepared are important first steps.

Your heart muscle needs oxygen to survive. A heart attack occurs when the blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart muscle is severely reduced or cut off completely.  When the blood supply to the heart is cut off, a heart attack develops. The most common cause of blockage is a buildup of fat, cholesterol, and other chemicals in the arteries that supply the heart (coronary arteries).  A plaque can break and generate a clot, obstructing blood flow. Parts of the heart muscle can be damaged or destroyed if blood flow is disrupted.
